New DC Comics logos
A few days ago the new DC Comics and DC Entertainment logos received a fairly negative reaction when they found their way online. Today DC have officially unveiled the logos, showing just how versatile they can be.
The announcement from DC Entertainment included these words by Nicolas Aparicio, who is the Executive Creative Director at Landor’s San Francisco office:
It was our goal to capture DC Entertainment in a dynamic and provocative identity. Our solution is a living expression which changes and adapts to the characters, story lines and the ways fans are consuming content.
He then goes on to say:
The new identity is built for the digital age, and can easily be animated and customized to take full advantage of the interactivity offered across all media platforms.
Personally I wasn’t sure when I first saw the black and white versions earlier in the week, however, now that I’ve seen how the logo can be used to represent different characters, I am warming to it. I’m not totally convinced yet though, but with rebrands its usually best to wait a while to see how it’s used in further applications and to adjust to what is in this case, quite a big departure from the previous DC Comics logos. It will be interesting to see if opinions are more positive now more has been revealed.
